Here’s your daily stimulus check, your second stimulus check and stimulus package update for Thursday, August 6th, 2020.
For some Senators, tomorrow’s deadline to pass another stimulus package is all or nothing, as they aren’t willing to give up their vacation time to get us struggling Americans the financial support we need.
Senator Roy Blunt stated: “If there’s not a deal by Friday, there won’t be a deal.”
I think it’s pretty safe to say that if you aren’t willing to put in the extra work to get another stimulus package passed before your vacation, you don’t deserve to come back to Washington to represent the people in your state.
Whit House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows stated that if Congress isn’t able to approve a Phase 4 disaster relief bill, President Trump may be forced to take action.
Meadows explained: “By Friday, if we haven’t made significant progress and we’re too far apart, the president is prepared to take executive action.”
Simply put, Meadows continued: “If Congress can’t get it done, the President of the United States will.”
While we know that Trump wants to ban evictions, extend enhanced unemployment benefits and get rid of payroll taxes, it remains to be seen whether or not he can legally make these items a reality.
Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi has been vocal regarding her meetings with the White House and the progress of the upcoming stimulus package
Following their conference yesterday, Pelosi stated: "I feel optimistic that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but how long that tunnel is remains to be seen."
She continued: “Will we find a solution? We will. Will we have an agreement? We will.”
Not one to miss the chance to throw a little mud at Republicans when possible, when asked why she was having difficulties working with Republicans, Pelosi quipped: “Perhaps you mistook [Republicans] for somebody who gives a damn.”
Easy there Nancy! We’re trying to get a bipartisan bill passed here and name calling isn’t going to get it done any quicker!
Finally, Mitch McConnell has said some very interesting comments over the past 24 hours.
After explaining that he is “prepared to support” any deal made between the House Democrats and the White House, McConnell stated that he is even willing to give up his vacation time next week to stick around in Washington.
McConnell explained: "I will not be adjourning the Senate for our August recess today as has been previously scheduled. I've told Republican senators they'll have a 24-hour notice before a vote, but the Senate will be convening on Monday and I'll be right here in Washington."
Hopefully they can get a bill passed by tomorrow so he can return to his regularly scheduled vacation, but it’s nice to know that he’s willing to give up his recess to get another stimulus package approved.
But much like Pelosi, Mitch can still sling some mud just as well as the best of them.
McConnell also stated: "The Senate won't adjourn for August until the Democrats demonstrate they will never let an agreement materialize. A lot of Americans' hopes, a lot of American' lives, are riding on the Democrats' endless talk. I hope they're not disappointed."
Do you really think these politicians are going to give up their vacation time? Let me know in the comments below!
